A Very Smelly Christmas...

Happy holidays readers, If anyone is out there in the Blogoverse that is! I am here today to talk about two beauty products I received this christmas period. If the title of this entry didn't give it away I am of course talking about bath and shower products, to those of you who guessed this was in relation to post - dinner flatulence you have been awarded a close second congratulations. This year I got a nice little surprise from santa when I received the "Atlas Shower Gel Gift Set" by "Molton Brown", a nifty little set that contained six of their best selling mens shower gels (6 x 100ml) which has gone down a storm in the shower with a selection from a skin loving vitamin A,B + C shower gel, a feast for the senses in the form of the warm eucalyptus shower gel or the manliest smelling (in my personal opinion) of cool buchu  to name but a few. This gift set was well received with open arms and is currently being put to the test in various shower endeavors.

The Shower Scent Line Up

The other gift I received this christmas was a "Lush" shower set, this gift if I am to be honest wasn't something that I was jumping up and down at when I was originally given it, prior to this my experience with Lush had always felt like some what of a forced sale as opposed to a sale assistant who cared about my complexion as much as I did. I was in the opinion that all they cared about was their commission and after my spell in beauty college with my new found knowledge I had found myself on several occasions being on the back end of a dodgy sales pitch and a product that wasn't going to do what it said on the tin based on the skin type at hand! Yet I digress as this was a gift none the less and after it drew me in with its enchanting scent of all natural ingredients I was willing to give it a try. Currently I have used the "Rub Rub Rub" body exfoliator which was amazing after I used it my skin was feeling no pain and it even managed to shift some of the dead skin on my dermatitis ridden hands which for me was a goal in itself.
Could this convert me?

Thats its for now on my very smelly christmas haul I shall be doing a full review on both these sets after I have given them a good run for their money. I hoped you enjoyed reading it and please feel free to subscribe for more news, reviews and howtos in the coming future.

Tweezing for Dummies (Men and Women)

Here in Dublin, the grand aul captial city of Ireland we are in the midst of an epidemic. Yes there is a stainless steal untensil that is tearing famlies apart, this creature is said to live in the depts of our beauty boxes and is known to come out late at night and attack unsuspecting eyebrows. Never fear ladies and gents I am here to save the day with my own take of "Tweezing for Dummies"

To do this all you will need is a tweezers, an orange wood stick (or a pen something long and straight) and some savlon.

Before we begin this I would like to remind people of the age old saying;

                                              "Eyebrows are sisters not twins"

Step 1: Meausring your eyebrows

In my opinion the most important step to ensuring you leave yourself with a natural looking set of forehead warmers is to measure them, to do this you simply take your orange wood stick, pen or you can even use a nail file (we will refer to this as the stick from now on). Taking your stick place it vertically from the corner of your nose past the begining of your brow and you tweeze anything outside of this point but ensure you measure both brows at the same time to ensure you don't over pluck the space between your two brows. The next stage is to take the stick and from the corner of the nose once again bring the stick to where your eyebrow should end which is at the outer corner of your eye and tweeze anything outside this point, They finally to meausre your highest point (basically where your natural arch is) Whilst looking straight ahead, bring the stick from the corner of your nose diagonally over your pupil and this will give you your highest point. This is so you can pluck your eyebrows to their natural arch.

Step 2: Tweezing

I would reccomend doing this when you get out of the shower as your hair follicle (the bit the hair grows from) will be open and it wont be as painful when your tweezing the hairs. One of the key factors in painless tweezing is ensuring that the skin is pulled taut when tweezing, you can do this by taking your middle and index finger, select the area you want to tweeze keep the area small, and pull the skin up and keeping that tension tweeze inbetween the two fingers. Make sure that you tweeze in the direction of growth I cant tell you how important that is! If you don't you can completely destroy the shape of your eyebrows and cause your brow hair to change direction of growth. My tweezers is from the Boots range and it was €6

Step 3: Cleansing

Taking some savlon or any form of anti-septic cream rub it all over your eyebrows as this helps to reduce redness and basically just clean the eyebrows which is important especially if you have bloodspotting.

Ethan's Top Tweezing Tips

1) Don't over pluck, they are eyebrows not chickens

2) Tweeze after the shower to help make it less painful

3) Don't spend too much time on any one eyebrow make sure you alternate

4) Make sure you stop every now and then and look in the mirror to prevent yourself from overplucking

5) DON'T OVERPLUCK (Has it sunk in yet?)

My Skincare Routine (When I don't shave)

Today i'm going to do an old classic and discuss my skin care routine, before I begin I just want to say that this is quite new to me as before I started college I was never one to look after my skin but then when I got into it I found myself coming home and thinking "Oh lord i'll look like i'm 30 by the time in 25" So with that I then decided to start taking care of my skin. Realisticly I don't do this all the time, I mean it skips my mind alot but when I do commit to it I can certainly notice a difference.

I have oily skin with sensitivity and the products I use are:

1) Salon products that are available for purchase by members of the general public is stores such as Terrisales on Middle Abbey Street, Dublin or in any of Sally/Salon services that can be found around Dublin.

2) Commercial products that are available in shops such as Boots and Tesco

My cleanser and moisturiser are both by "Kaeso Beauty", my toner is by "Simple" and my exfoliator is by "Clean & Clear"

Cleaner and Toner

With a lot of men its best to use a cleansing milk or foam as they tend not to wear make up (how ever that depends on the person) but personally i like to use a cream cleanser as it's just easier for me and it feels nicer, My cleanser as I mentioned above is by Kaseo the rebalancing range it contains cucumber and mallow. Cucumber helps to soften your skin and soothe irratation whilst mallow helps to refine pores, This product also contains witch hazel which is an astringent (basically draws mositure from the skin i.e. excess oil) I apply 3 pumps of the cleanser to my face and rub it into my skin in upward cicrcles, this is so that I am helping to encourage the dirt and oil to the surafce of my face and help unblock pores. Cleanser can not be removed with water you must use a toner to remove it as it will break down the oil and help remove left over residue, once again I use Simple soothing facial toner as it is oil-free and is really suited to my sensitive skin as is contains chamomile which is a soothing agent. I use this by placing the toner on two cotton disks and use a sweeping motion from my jaw upwards.

Exfoliating and Moisturising

After my cleanse and tone I always moisturise using my Kaseo reablancing moisturiser this is perfect for me as it goes on with a light layer and doesn't leave my skin looking oily which can be annoying and quite frankly unflattering. This too contains cucumber and mallow but instead of witch hazel it contains Vitamin E which acts as an anti-oxidant. My exfoliator is Clean & Clear exfoliating daily wash how ever with my oily skin i only need to exfoliate three times a week. This is a great exfoliator as it is oil free and has a low alchohol content so its not too rough on my face. I apply a 2 euro size ammount to a wet face after my cleanse and tone, it is important your face is wet as the grains in the exfoliator can scratch your face which isn't pretty, After my exfoliating I apply my mosituriser

Prices of Products:

Kaeso rebalancing cleanser      €5.85
Simple sotthing toner               €3.80
Kaeso rebalancing moisturiser  €5.85
Clean & Clear exfoliator            €3 - €4
